Aftab Poonawalla’s family fled to an unknown location as they had an idea of the son’s activities: Police: The Tribune India

Mumbai, November 16

The family of Aftab Amin Poonawalla, a suspect in the Shraddha Walker murder case, has fled to an unknown location and is now untraceable, Manikpur (Palghar) police said on Wednesday.

The family moved only after the first call from the Manikpur Police.

According to police, Aftab’s family moved to an unknown location without notifying the police.

“When the Manikpur police took Aftab’s statement after calling him to Vasai, Aftab’s family moved to an unknown place. Aftab’s family also has no contact with the Manikpur police,” the police told ANI.

The victim in the case, Shraddha Walker’s family, had filed a missing person complaint against her with PS Manikpur. Aftab was later summoned for questioning twice.

“Aftab stated that he and Shraddha are no longer staying together,” the sources said.

The police sources said the family had moved without the knowledge of the police because they had an idea of the son’s activities.

“That’s why they moved hastily without informing the police. Aftab also came home at the time of the move. Aftab took some of his belongings from the house. The family moved only after the first call from the Manikpur Police,” the statement said. sources. .

The police called Aftab a second time on November 3, when the case came to light. The police officers from Manikpur Police Station went to Delhi on 8 November in connection with the case.

On 26 October, Manikpur Police recorded Aftab’s statement for the first time, but it was a verbal statement where he only spoke about Shraddha’s departure after an argument.

While his written statement was taken on November 3, during this summons the police had handed over the paper documents, bank account details and mobile phone location to the suspect, to which he had no response, according to the sources.

Aftab’s lie was exposed through the online transactions he made from Shraddha’s account to his own. He told the police that he knew the password of Shraddha’s mobile phone, which enabled him to transfer the amount of Rs 54,000.

According to the police, Aftab also used Shraddha’s ATM and credit card even after committing the crime.

Meanwhile, the accused in the grisly murder case of Shraddha Walker, Aftab Amin Poonawalla, who was recently arrested, had attempted to mislead the Delhi and Maharashtra police in the early days of the investigation.

Aftab had tried to cover up Shraddha’s murder by removing physical evidence, but he had left behind the digital evidence that the police tracked down to uncover the truth of the matter.

When the Delhi Police launched the investigation, Aftab had told the police that Shraddha left the house on May 22 (Shraddha was killed on May 18) after a fight. He said she only had her phone with her and left her things in his flat. He claimed she was unreachable and that he had not been in contact with her since, police sources said.

However, the truth came to light when police checked the couple’s phone calls and investigated their locations.

The biggest break the police got was the bank statement of the couple’s account which showed a transaction of Rs 54,000 from Shraddha internet banking app to Aftab’s account on May 26. May 22 and he didn’t get in touch with her, the sources said.

The location of the wire transfer that took place on May 26 was also found to be the area of Mehrauli Police Station.

In addition, on May 31, there was a chat with her boyfriend from Shraddha’s Instagram account. When the police discovered the location of Shraddha’s phone, it was found to be in Mehrauli police station in Delhi.

Aftab couldn’t answer the police’s question that if Shraddha had her phone with her, why trace its location back to his home? It was at this point that Aftab revealed the truth.

As the investigation progresses, the police may conduct Aftab’s NARCO analysis test, according to the sources.

Manikpur police sources said that when Shraddha’s family was unable to contact her due to her phone being switched off, they filed the missing complaint with Manikpur police station. Following the complaint, Aftab was summoned to Manikpur Police Station for questioning.

“Aftab Poonawalla was called for questioning twice, once last month and the second time on November 3. When Aftab was asked about Shraddha, he said that Shraddha had left the place where he lived. And they do not live together. Whenever Aftab was called for questioning he never showed any restlessness or nervousness on his face,” Manikpur police sources said.

Manikpur Police had recorded a two-page statement when he was called for questioning a second time, but he had only one thing to say.

Earlier on Tuesday, police sources told ANI that Aftab confessed that he was determined to kill Shraddha more than a week before the assassination (May 18).

Meanwhile, Shraddha’s father on Tuesday demanded the death penalty for the accused, while also suspecting a “love jihad” behind the incident.

Vikas Walker, Shraddha’s father, told ANI, “I guess I like jihad. We demand that Aftab be sentenced to death. I have faith in the Delhi Police as the investigation is moving in the right direction. Shraddha was close to her uncle and didn’t talk to me much. I never had any contact with Aftab. I made the first complaint in the case to Vasai (Mumbai).”

“I had last spoken to Shraddha in 2021. I was going to ask her to tell me more about her live-in partner. But she didn’t say much. I didn’t know she had moved to Delhi. Her friend told me she was in Delhi. I thought she was in Bengaluru. Aftab had a lot of time to remove all the evidence,” said Shraddha’s father.
