It may be a different story later on, though, which is why airline officials have been stressing all weekend on the importance of getting to the airport early, packing smart, and being ready with ID at TSA lines to get things done. to keep moving.
By the time Monday is over, some 1.7 million people are expected to have visited O’Hare and Midway airports over the weekend. That’s an increase of 6.6% from last year as travel continues to recover post-pandemic.
For those traveling on a Saturday evening, however, it was fairly quiet, which was good news for those who preferred a shorter weekend but an easier time getting back to their destination.

A severe weather system in several parts of the United States has prompted the three major airports serving New York to urge passengers to arrive early for flights on what is expected to be one of the busiest travel days of the year, CNN reported.
As of Sunday afternoon, 3,507 flights to, from or within the United States were delayed and 86 U.S. flights were canceled, according to FlightAware, the website said.

New York’s LaGuardia Airport has urged passengers to reserve parking spaces in advance, which operators say are filling up. “We can’t stress this enough – plan ahead and arrive early if you’re traveling during the #Thanksgiving holiday travel season,” the airport tweeted.
Newark Liberty International Airport echoed LGA by suggesting passengers should plan ahead and strive to arrive at the airport early. It warned that the roads to the airport were already congested by Sunday morning. “The holiday season means a lot of passengers. If you plan to travel through Terminal A or B, take advantage of the FREE EWR VirtuaLine service and secure your spot at the security checkpoint in advance,” the airport said on Friday.
