The next WoW expansion, Dragonflight, is already available to lucky players who were able to pre-purchase, but a plague of missing weapons seems to be hitting players in the new starting area.

It can be quite unsettling to suddenly discover that your character’s weapon is completely missing for no reason.

Read on to find out what this bug is and more importantly, what you can do about it.

WoW Dragonflight missing weapons explained

Your weapons are probably still there, hidden only by your majestic set of wings.

If you’ve played the awesome new Class/Race combination, then you’ll be chilling in The Forbidden Reach. You’ll probably also have noticed that equipping your character with weapons doesn’t always make them appear.

If you have a staff equipped, it will not appear anywhere on your character model. To fix this, tap ‘Z’ to unsheath your weapon, and your character should pull it out of the negative space on their back.

The reason behind this “bug” has to do with the way the new character race is designed.

While sheathed, weapons should appear on your back, but since the Dracthyr have wings, the weapon will not appear. It’s not so much a bug as a natural part of who these new characters are.

Do missing weapons affect combat?

Fortunately, it turns out that the missing weapons in Dragonflight are purely cosmetic. Having your staff sheathed won’t affect your spells and abilities, and if you opt for direct melee, your character will likely bring out their staff for you.

You should also still benefit from any increased stats the weapon gives you, even when it’s scabbarded. For example, if you’re in a hurry with your weapon, you should still grab it while the weapon is on your back, even if it’s invisible.

So it’s still worth equipping a staff or other weapon with your Dracthyr Evoker to take advantage of the boost to your other stats and abilities.

That said, it’s somewhat disappointing that Blizzard didn’t make it possible to somehow see your weapon. On the other hand, Blizzard has often struggled with the artistic side of casing certain weapons.

WoW Dragonflight Missing Weapons FAQ

What is Dragonflight about?

While we want to avoid story spoilers, we can say that the new expansion focuses on the Dracthyr, a race of dragon-like humanoids newly available for this expansion.

What armor class is evoker?

Evokers can only use Mail Armor, probably because the class is tied to the Draconic Dracthyr.
